Regular ice machine cleaning is vital for maintaining sanitary conditions, complying with health regulations, and ensuring optimal performance. Our professional maintenance services prevent harmful mold, algae, and calcium buildup, keeping your machines efficient and producing clean, safe ice. Regular maintenance reduces malfunctions and prevents mineral buildup that can block key components. We recommend cleaning every six months—or quarterly for high-use units—to keep your equipment in top condition. There are two types of cleaning services we provide:

Chemical Cleaning:

A quick and cost-effective method for maintaining ice machines between deep cleanings, chemical cleaning is the most common approach used by most service providers and requires the least effort. Typically performed between recommended deep scale cleanings, it is the least expensive and least thorough of the two methods. The procedure involves pouring a cleaning chemical into the reservoir, which is then circulated through the system to help break down calcium buildup. The solution is flushed out through the drain, but while this type of cleaning is helpful for general maintenance, it does not thoroughly clean the entire machine. The cost for a chemical cleaning is typically around half the price of a deep scale cleaning, which provides a more comprehensive clean.

Deep Scale Cleaning:

The most comprehensive and thorough cleaning process available, deep scale cleaning is a labor-intensive procedure designed to remove calcium buildup, sanitize internal components, and ensure optimal performance. This method requires the removal of most panels for access, allowing tubes to be internally scrubbed and all components to be thoroughly cleaned and inspected. At Ark, we perform deep scale cleanings almost exclusively unless the unit is cleaned quarterly, as it is far more effective than chemical cleaning. This process typically takes 2 to 3 times longer than chemical cleaning and is recommended by all manufacturers. Following the cleaning, all internal components are sanitized, and the ice bin is emptied and sanitized as well. Regular deep scale cleaning is essential if you want your ice machine to last 10+ years and maintain peak performance.
